Mr. Palmer driving the Solartaxi into SolarEdge car park

The team at SolarEdge got a solar treat  when Mr. Louis Palmer and his Solartaxi decided to pay us a visit at our Israel based office.  Employees got very excited as Mr. Palmer and his solar powered car pulled into the entrance of the Hod Hasharon high-tech zone. The lunchtime visit gave the team a chance to take a closer look at the eco-friendly vehicle and a few lucky ones even got to take the car for a test drive.

SolarEdge is proud to co-sponsor Mr. Palmer’s visit to Israel, which is part of the Eco Cinema Festival.  Mr. Palmer recently finished an 18-month adventure which spanned across the globe. This global tour was an integral campaign aimed at proving to the world that electric vehicles are clean, reliable and ready for everyday life.

The SolarEdge team was very impressed with Mr. Palmer’s vehicle. This car uses the latest ZEBRA battery technology, giving the ability to drive up to 400km. The Solartaxi demonstrates a new way of mobility in cities. It fills a nice niche between a car and a motorcycle. The car is extremely light, weighing only 500kg and can reach speeds of up to 90km/h. The Solartaxi consumes 8kWh per 100 km, which is equivalent to 0.81 liter of petrol/1km. And the best news of all, it produces zero CO2 emissions!

Lior Handelsman explains how SolarEdge technology works to Mr PalmerAfter showing off the Solartaxi, Mr. Palmer met with Guy Sella, Chairman & CEO, and with Lior Handelsman, VP Product Strategy & Business Development, who demonstrated SolarEdge’s own unique solar technologies. Mr. Palmer saw in his visit firsthand how the SolarEdge technology works.

In sponsoring the Solartaxi’s tour to the Middle East, SolarEdge aimed at helping Mr. Palmer’s life mission, which is to educate the world that solar energy is functional, efficient, and most importantly, reliable!

This has got to be the coolest thing I have ever seen! I wonder if they are any slower than "regular" gas powered vehicles?

Well, that car certainly LOOKS funny...but, if it's running fully on solar power, that is completely awesome. I hope it takes off better than the electric car did. The design for that was out at least 20 years ago, yet most vehicles sold in the US are still gas-powered.
